Prewriting

* Think about your topic
* List words and ideas

* Gather information
* Organize all of your ideas

Drafting

* Put thoughts and ideas down on the paper
* Don't worry about capital letters,
grammar, punctuation, and spelling
* WRITE, WRITE, WRITE


Revising

* Make sure everything is on topic
* Add more details
* Delete anything that is unnecessary
* Make sure the words are in the correct order
* Get rid of "boring words" and add "exciting words"
* Rewrite sentences so it is easy to read
* Make sure it is appropriate for your audience


Editing

* Check your capitalization, grammar, and punctuation
* Make sure your subjects and verbs agree
Be a word detective and check your spelling
* Use correct proofreadrer marks to identify mistakes


Publishing

* Take your time!
* Use your best handwriting
* Illustrate your writing
* Read it aloud to yourself
* Think of turning it into a play, puppet show, or book
