Our Classroom

The following is a list of "Need to Know" items to help your
child have a successful 4th grade year:

Take home folders & assignment notebooks - Please check your child’s take-home folder every night and sign their assignment notebook.  This is one way for us to communicate with each other.  Homework and other important papers will be in the take home folder. This is a way for us to help your child learn the lifelong important skill of organization.

Homework - Your child will have homework. Most of the time, they are given ample time in class to complete the assignment.  However, if they do have homework, I will do my best to make sure they leave the classroom with it in their take home folder.  What happens with it from there, is their responsibility.

Research shows that 4th graders should do up to but not more than 40 minutes of homework a night.  If you feel it is taking your child more time, please talk to me so we can work something out. Please check their bookbag and assignment notebook to see if they do have any.

School Day

The school day is from 8:15 to 3:30.   They can then choose to get breakfast from the cafeteria but will be bringing it back to the classroom.  The tardy bell rings at 8:15.  Also, please remember that on Thursdays dismissal is at 1:30.

If your child is going to be absent from school, I will do my best to provide the homework that is missed. However, it is hard to duplicate what has happened in the classroom or to make up a project that was assigned as a group.  Please remember, I love having your child here and want them to be at school as much as possible.

School Rules and Discipline

One of my strongest expectations is that the students will be taught and will follow the classroom rules and procedures.  Our school rules are:

Be Safe

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

Our classroom rules that go with the school rules are:

1. Be respectful of people, property and yourself

2. Use restroom at breaks and appropriate times

3. Be prepared for class

4. Listen and respond appropriately

5. Use time wisely

6. Do your best

Your child will earn tickets for positive behaviors and when they collect enough, they will turn them in for blue slips, which they will then use at the school store.  There will also be a raffle once a month for special privileges, so the more tickets they earn, the greater their chance to be called in the raffle!

Please contact me if you have any questions about this system.
